New Year, New Thing

God says in Revelation 21:5, "Behold, I am making all things new."

And speaking of the new birth, Paul says in 2 Corinthians, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."

With a new year, it is a fitting reminder that God is in the business of making new things. One day, there will be a new heavens and a new earth.

But, in the present, He is in the process of making you new each day. The moment you repented of your sin and believed in Jesus, a new you was born. The old you, the one who was by nature a child wrath, passed away. You are a new creation. But even now, each day, God wants to renew you.

Paul says in Colossians 3:10, "Having put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator."

Today, you can take heart, knowing that He who started a good work in you will continue to work on it until the day of completion. 360 days from now, by the grace of God, you will look in the mirror and the person you are today will be no longer. That person will be changed. More godly. More patient. More loving. More steadfast. More resembling the Lord Jesus Christ.

Friends, this year, be committed to your sanctification and your growth in godliness, even as your Heavenly Father is committed to yours. And as you strive for maturity each day, the nature of Christ in you will continue replacing the nature of Adam, until we reach glory.

May we step into the new creation that God has made us!
